Rural Industries Leadership Section

Our role is to improve recognition of the contribution women, young people and indigenous communities make to rural industries (agriculture, fisheries, resource management, food processing and forestry) and to encourage them to become part of the decision making process in their industries.

To achieve these goals, we design and implement programs that provide opportunities for people in these client groups to develop skills and network. The new skills and networks will enable them to contribute effectively to their respective industries and communities.

Global Seafood Australia Limited

Global Seafood Australia Limited was established in 1979 by the founder Mr James Lu.

In 1980 Global Seafood began processing and wholesaling seafood throughout Australia. In 1983 an export license was obtained. Today Global Seafood supplies markets throughout the world.

In 1995 a new 2,500 m² factory was built beside the Brisbane river on a 6,000 m² property providing excellent access to shipping and to airport facilities. The company has strategically placed purchasing offices in Cairns and Yeppoon.

In March, 2001, the first stage of Global Seafood's latest state-of-the-art building and processing facility was completed with the prawn processing and main cold storage facility operational. At the end of April, 2001 the building was completed and Global Seafood Australia's head office's (photograph above) transition was complete.

The building itself is 3700m² with a total cold storage capacity of 1000mt. The building is totally purpose built to suit the nature of the business in which we are involved, be they the distribution sector, the chilled fish domestic and export markets or the interstate and export frozen seafood, down to our processing facility itself, which has 4 plate freezers capable of freezing 9.5 tonne in an eight hour day. The new premises has the latest in prawn processing equipment including grading machines, hoppers and nylon elevators and conveyors.

Global now employs over 100 people.
